Well, in case you havent heard of Chalk Paint then chances are you will before long.. It is starting to become all the craze throughout the Web and for good reason..

What Exactly Is Chalk Paint?

Chalk Paint was designed by Annie Sloan and is a formula paint which is created to go on nearly anything you might ever desire to paint on the interior or outside the house without any prepping or sanding.. It covers easily and helps you acquire a gorgeous, distressed and antique patina with very little time and effort.

Chalk paint goes on smooth, dries rapidly and is easily sanded to distress your piece for a well-worn look.
It is called chalk paint mainly because it goes over the item with a gentle, chalky patina that's perfect for producing an wonderful antique appearance..

However, it's a little pricey at $34.95/ quart. Having said that, the other beautiful thing about chalk paint is that it is also very easy and inexpensive to produce yourself.

At www.howtodistressfurniture.net we paint every item on our website with homemade chalk paint which we made ourselves with this very formula.

The Basic Formula
· 2 Cups Paint
· 5 Tablespoons of Plaster of Paris
· 2 Tablespoons Cold Water

Step 1
Mix the Plaster of Paris and water together in a separate dish. Mix completely until the plaster becomes chalky and thick with no lumps.

Step 2
Then add the plaster mixture in to the paint and blend well.. Be certain to get all of the plaster stirred up well and blended completely in to the mixture. Use your stirring stick to verify there are no lumps in the bottom. If there is plaster in the bottom then it's not going to wind up on your piece. The paint needs to be as smooth as it was before. The paint will look initially no different than the paint you had before, but when the chalk paint dries on the furniture you'll begin to observe that light, aged and chalky patina that you're searching for..

You can easily double the recipe for a quart of paint, multiply by 4 for a 1/2 gallon and so forth.

It's possible to add more or less plaster to suit your taste also. If you want a more faded and chalky exterior then add more plaster. If you want less you can add less. Just experiment and enjoy.

If you are doing a large project where the paint will likely be exposed an extended amount of time, give some thought to pouring only what you need to paint with into cups to hold on to when you paint and shut the top on the main can.! If you might be working on a large project in which the paint is going to be uncovered an extended amount of time, give some thought to pouring just what you need to paint with into cups to hold while you paint and close up the lid on the primary can. This will keep all of your paint from getting too thick too quickly.

If it does start getting thick you can add a little water to loosen it up but just add slowly and gradually until it smooths out a little.

Now you have chalk paint to make your own special distressed home furniture creations.

All The Best!
